Supreme Court Rules 550 Acres at Miyapur Belong to Telangana Government

The Supreme Court has held that roughly 550 acres of land at Miyapur, Hyderabad, belongs to the Telangana government and rejected the claims of private parties, ending a dispute that officials describe as almost three decades old. Rangareddy district officials began taking possession on Friday, 30 October 2026, according to The Daily Pioneer.

What officials said on the ground

Rangareddy District Collector C. Narayan Reddy inspected the land, which lies under survey numbers 100 and 101 in Serilingampalli revenue mandal, with revenue and HMDA officials. About 400 acres are already fenced, and the rest will be secured once a fresh survey is complete, he said, according to The Daily Pioneer.

• Existing colonies: The collector said residential colonies that have come up on part of the land will not be touched without consulting the state government, and that people living in existing structures have nothing to fear.
• HMDA control: The parcels were allotted to HMDA in 2003, and the vacant portion remains under the authority's control.
• History: The dispute dates to a 1995 land-grabbing case, and the litigation ran 23 years including civil appeal 10699 of 2013. Officials traced the land to the Nizam era, when it was jagir property declared poramboku after jagir rights were abolished in 1949.
• Bench: The collector credited the Supreme Court bench for the verdict, naming Justices Satish Chandra Sharma and M.N. Sundereshan as reported by The Daily Pioneer.

Value of the land is disputed

The collector put the land at around ₹50,000 crore, according to The Daily Pioneer. BRS leader T. Harish Rao said the Chief Minister had himself valued the 550 acres at more than ₹60,000 crore. These are officials' and politicians' estimates, not an independent valuation.

Political claims

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has said the previous BRS government colluded with private entities over the land. Harish Rao rejected this, saying court records show the BRS government fought an eight-year legal battle from 2015 to 2023, appointing senior advocate C.S. Vaidyanathan on 7 April 2015, as reported by Deccan Chronicle. Harish Rao also criticised a proposal to sell the land within 24 hours of the verdict and alleged the government was preparing to dispose of it to the Chief Minister's associates. That allegation has not been independently verified, and no sale has been confirmed in the reports we reviewed.
